In South Africa starts the first Unmanned Aircraft System Training Course delivered by EuroUSC Italia and AfricaUSC!

From 23 to 27 July 2018 AfricaUSC and EuroUSC Italia delivered UAS Training at the Midrand Conference Centre in Johannesburg.

The course was attended by about 30 inspectors and officials of the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SA CAA) and had the main objective of providing participants with knowledge and understanding of the regulatory environment for civil drones, so enabling the officials and inspectors to execute their duties with efficiency and diligence.

The course covered the emerging provisions for regulation of operations of civil drones at international level, information on how key States are gradually integrating Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in non-segregated airspace, as well as emerging ICAO provisions for the certified category complemented by new approaches for regulation of the open and specific category: market surveillance; standard scenarios; declarations; qualified entities; …

Finally, the course enabled participants to apply the current rules of South Africa on UAS (i.e. Part 101 promulgated in 2015) and the Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA).
Dale McErlean, Director Business and Training at Africa USC declared: “I am very happy for the success of this course, which was the first public event organised by AfricaUSC. We remain available to serve the training needs of the CAAs and industry in the domain of UAS and related services”.
Sam Twala, Director Business and Content at AfricaUSC added: “Working with Filippo Tomasello was a wonderful experience, since it allowed us to exploit our complementary knowledge and competence. We look forward to subsequent joint projects with EuroUSC Italia”.
Albert Msithini, Manager Aerial Work at SA CAA concluded: “I was very satisfied of the atmosphere in the classroom and of the active participation by several attendees. I am sure that this training has enabled our staff not only to better carry out respective UAS tasks, but also to better contribute to the evolution of South Africa rules on the matter.”
