Drones represent a global phenomenon and one of the first pervasive platforms in which multiple PNT technologies are integrated, including GNSS, Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), Vision-Based Systems and Signals of Opportunity. To date, multiple GNSS receivers manufactures offer chipset and OEM receiver board for drones in a wide range of performance grade and price. The objective of DEGREE project is to develop an innovative Galileo Dual-Frequency receiver with target Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 7 and a competitive cost for the launch in the market.
The development of the DronEborne Galileo RecEivEr (DEGREE) will support the Technology Development on GNSS receivers with high flexibility and adaptability to Risk Assessment processes to allow a safe conduction of flight operations. The receiver is intended to meet the requirements set by EASA for a High level of robustness for OSO #13, which is required for SAIL IV and beyond thus unlocking all possible risk levels for operations in the specific category.
The DEGREE solution is targeting the market of “commercial user” that requires a high-end customizable product for the professional applications (e.g., Infrastructure Monitoring, Oli/Gas Pipeline Inspection, Emergency Management, Delivery and Transport and Aerial Photography). In addition, the DEGREE project will follow and strive to influence the standardisations activities related to GNSS security.
