On 14 March 2022 Señor Alejandro Mena, General Manager of Agencia Centroamericana de Seguridad Aeronautica (ACSA) opened the Regional Workshop on UAS in Alajuela (Costa Rica).

The Workshop is part of the EU Latin America and Caribbean Aviation Partnership Project (EU-LAC APP) whose management is executed by EASA under delegation by the European Commission.

The Workshop will last one week and its aim is to facilitate development of common ACSA rules for UAS promoting regional harmonisation.

Filippo Tomasello, Technical Facilitator of Workshop and Senior at EuroUSC Italia, stated: «The three risk-based categories of UAS operations, invented by JARUS and initially implemented by Qatar, Georgia and EU/EASA, are now acknowledged by ICAO. This is an opportunity for harmonisation of rules around the globe, which would facilitate the life of citizens and enterprises, as well as contributing to a peaceful global market.»

The workshop will be highly interactive, allowing delegates from Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, jointly with ACSA Officials, to propose their preferred options for common implementation of the open, specific and certified categories of UAS operations in their region.
